Quran celebrates Christmas

In the latest one or two decades there has been some voices calling upon  muslims to refrain from congratulating or celebrating Christmas under the pretext that this is illegal in Islam . These claims never appeared throughout 14 centuries of Islamic history but only surfaced by the recent wave of non rational extremism & bigotry adopted by those few violent or extremist muslim factions who claim that congratulating Christians on Christmas is an association to ALLAH & that it implies the recognition of Jesus as a GOD

Sheikh  Muhammad  Abduh (1849-1905) , Head of Islamic verdict body in his time   has stated in his famous article “Principles of Islam ” that maintaining cordial & friendship relations with non muslims is a principle of Islam

Affirming what the Sheikh said , & addressing the recent issue of congratulating Christians on Christmas day, the page editor hereby quotes Quran verses hailing & celebrating Jesus birth (Christmas) as a day of peace & good tidings

Q 19 :33

وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَيَّ يَوْمَ وُلِدتُّ

translation ” And peace is on me the day I was born ”

Q 3:45 إِذْ قَالَتِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ يَا مَرْيَمُ إِنَّ اللَّـهَ يُبَشِّرُكِ بِكَلِمَةٍ مِّنْهُ اسْمُهُ الْمَسِيحُ

translation ” when the angels said, “O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus”

Thus, Congratulating Christians & celebrating Christmas  is allowable in Islam &  in line with Quran that hailed Christmas & urged us to maintain cordiality with all people including & specially those people of scripture & does not at all imply any recognition of Jesus as GOD , Jesus in Quran is Sprit from ALLAH , His word to Mary, His Prophet  & a Sign of GOD on earth . Christmas is a day of peace & good tidings as stated in Quran
